Why do church leaders excuse lying, adultery, and other serious sins when committed by their political allies?
Early in my Christian walk, I was taught to strive for holiness in every area of life. Sin must not be tolerated in thought, word, or deed. “Do not evil that good may come!” As a disciple of Jesus, I was to live “separate” from the fallen world, not physically, but spiritually and morally. His follower must not be “unequally yoked together” with sinners.

God allows evil rulers to govern us and uses them to accomplish His plans, but He also calls us to show them due respect and obedience.
Paul exhorted Christians residing in the heart of the Empire to respect governors and magistrates, to obey the emperor, and to pay their taxes. Existing authorities “have been arranged by God,” therefore, anyone who opposes the government is opposing “the arrangement of God.” That he stated this about the Roman government raises a dilemma for many of us.

Far too often, “apostles,” “prophets” and other church “leaders” exhort us to work diligently to elect politicians and pass laws of which they approve, claiming it is God’s will and warning of the dire consequences that will befall us if we fail to do so. Believers must fight tooth and nail for their chosen candidates and programs! But chosen by whom?

Mankind is split between those who follow the Lamb and those who render homage to the “beast.”
In Revelation, humanity is comprised of two opposing groups: The men who are “tabernacling in heaven” and the “inhabitants of the earth.” The descriptions are NOT geographical and reflect the allegiance of either group. The first consists of those who “follow the Lamb,” the latter of all who render homage to the “beast.” There is no third option.

When I was a young Christian, in my goals, conduct and outlook, I was taught to remain separate from the “fallen world order” as much as possible. Yes, conditions in the larger world were often disturbing, including its political realm, but what did one expect from a system under the dominion of sin and Satan? What humanity needed was the gospel of the Kingdom of God, not another political philosophy.
