Before he left the Temple for the last time, Jesus observed an impoverished widow depositing “two mites” into the treasury. In contrast to many that day, she had “cast in all that she had,” which, in his estimate, was worth far more than what the others had contributed. Apparently, Jesus assigns values to actions rather differently than we do.

WHO IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD?

Contrary to the claims of politicians and some church leaders, Jesus is the “light of the world,” not any nation or political ideology.

I admit it. On this issue, I am the proverbial “broken record.” But sometimes, popular ideas cross a very bright red line and become antibiblical, if not idolatrous. Such is the case when church leaders publicly proclaim that “country A” or “ideology B” is the “light of the world,” the shining example set on a hill for all the world to behold.
